Accessibility statement for Lanarkshire Mind Matters

This accessibility statement applies to content published on the Lanarkshire Mind Matters website, www.lanarkshiremindmatters.scot.nhs.uk. It does not apply to any other NHS Lanarkshire websites, or to any sites linked from Mind Matters.

This website is run by NHS Lanarkshire Psychological Services. We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • Change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • Zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen
  • Navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  • Navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • Listen to most of the website using a screen reader

We’ve also made the website text as simple as possible to understand.

The website AbilityNet has very helpful advice on making your device easier to use if you have a disability.

How accessible this website is

We know that some parts of this website are not fully accessible.

  • Some images do not have text for screen readers.
  • The sliders – the moving images – at the top of each page do not have alternative text, and cannot be paused.
  • The image-based links below the sliders are not keyboard accessible. However, these links are duplicates of the text links at the top of the page, which are keyboard accessible: in short, there is no part of the site that cannot be accessed by keyboard.
  • We know that some downloadable PDF and Microsoft Word-format documents available via the site are not fully accessible to screen-reader software. However, we have a duty to balance accessibility with privacy and with timely, evidence-based intervention. We endeavour to keep as much additional content accessible as possible, in line with UK-wide legislation for public-body websites.

How to request content in an accessible format

If you need information on this website in a different format like HTML, accessible PDF, large print, easy read, audio recording or braille contact us by email at mindmatterswebsite@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk. Please tell us the web address (URL) of the content you need, and the format you would like it in. We will consider your request, establish whether NHS Lanarkshire as a wider organisation can help, and get back to you within 14 days.

Reporting accessibility problems with this website

We are always looking to improve the accessibility of this website. If you find any problems not listed on this page or think we are not meeting accessibility requirements, you can contact us at mindmatterswebsite@lanarkshire.scot.nhs.uk.

Contacting us

  • BSL speakers can use the contactSCOTLAND-BSL service to make telephone calls to public, voluntary and private sectors services 24 hours a day. contactSCOTLAND-BSL is a Scottish Government service that connects deaf BSL users throughout Scotland through an online BSL interpreting video relay service (VRS) with all of Scotland’s public authorities and voluntary organisations (Third Sector).

Technical information about this website’s accessibility

NHS Lanarkshire Psychological Services is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

  • Some images do not have text alternatives. In theory, this fails WCAG 2.1 success criterion 1.1.1 (non-text content). However, there are no such images which are essential to the navigation or operation of the site.
  • The sliders – the moving images – at the top of each page do not have alternative text, and cannot currently be paused. In theory, this fails WCAG 2.1 success criteria 1.1.1 (non-text content) and 2.2.2 (pause, stop, hide). However, these sliders are not essential to the navigation or operation of the site, and function only as additional advertisement for other aspects of the site.
  • The image-based links below the sliders are not keyboard accessible. We would argue that this does not fail WCAG success criterion 2.1.1 (keyboard), as these are duplicate links: per that success criterion, all functionality of the site remains operable through a keyboard interface.

Disproportionate burden

Not applicable at the time of writing (September 2024). We will continue to monitor this and update this Accessibility Statement if required.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

Not applicable at the time of writing (September 2024). We will continue to monitor this and update this Accessibility Statement if required.

What we are doing to improve accessibility

Work is ongoing to keep the site in line with all appropriate legislation, and accessibility reviews are conducted periodically. We endeavour to ensure that all new content is accessible before it is published, though we have a duty to balance accessibility legislation with the provision of timely information. All staff contributing to Lanarkshire Mind Matters are provided with information to ensure they are aware of the importance of accessibility, and how to make content accessible.

Automatic translation

As of November 2022, we have introduced an auto-translation function to the site. This is provided for assistance only, and may not give an exact translation. We cannot make any promises, assurances or guarantees about the accuracy of auto-translated information, and can vouch only for the accuracy of the English version of the website, which is the official version.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared in October 2020. It was most recently reviewed on 25 September 2024. This most recent accessibility test was in September 2024. The test was carried out by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist from NHS Lanarkshire Psychological Services. When deciding on a sample of pages to test, we chose based on pages that gave a good example of each one of our templates.
